In 1983, the Satellite Agency Network Group (SAN Group) was formed for the purpose of establishing a large, regional alliance of local agencies.
The concept was to allow local agents to increase independence, focus on producing profitable business, while taking advantage of the opportunities afforded only to large, regional agencies producing significant volumes of business.
SAN Group is now the largest alliance of independent insurance agencies in the Northeast, with over 385 member agencies across eight states writing more than $1 billion in total member premiums.
The SAN Group model was so successful, the model was replicated nationally beginning in 1995, giving rise to SIAA – the Strategic Insurance Agency Alliance. Today, SAN is one of forty-eight SIAA regional master agencies, and with 13% of all independent agents across the country exceeding $10 billion in written premium, SIAA is now the single largest channel of independent agency distribution.
SAN Group is the largest alliance of independent insurance agencies in the Northeast, and the founding member of SIAA.
